Terms and Conditions

These Terms and Conditions (“Terms”) govern your purchase of, registration for, and participation in any Story Compass gathering, event, digital product, or membership.

Story Compass is a trading name of LuMa Ventures LLC, a Georgia limited liability company (“Story Compass,” “we,” “us,” or “our”). By completing a purchase or registering for an event, you (“you,” “your,” or “the participant”) agree to be bound by these Terms.

1. What You Are Purchasing

You are purchasing a seat in a facilitated group experience, or a recurring membership in an ongoing group. You are not purchasing a guaranteed outcome, medical treatment, mental health therapy, or professional clinical advice. See Section 6.

Specific gathering details, dates, times, formats, and pricing are detailed on their individual product pages. Those product descriptions are fully incorporated into these Terms.

2. Payment & Billing

All prices are listed in USD. Payment is due in full at checkout unless an official installment or payment plan is expressly offered by us.

Circle Memberships are recurring. By purchasing a Circle membership, you authorize us to charge your default payment method automatically on a recurring monthly basis until you cancel. You can cancel at any time, and your cancellation will take effect at the end of your current paid billing cycle.

3. Refunds, Cancellations, and Transfers

All refund requests, cancellations, and registration transfers are strictly governed by our Policies Page, which is incorporated directly into these Terms by reference. If there is ever a direct conflict between the Policies Page and these Terms regarding refunds or transfers, the Policies Page will control.

4. Group Capacity & Our Right to Cancel

Our gatherings rely on intimate group sizes and require a minimum enrollment to run successfully. We reserve the right to cancel or reschedule any gathering that does not meet minimum registration requirements, or due to unforeseen circumstances beyond our reasonable control (including facilitator illness, venue issues, extreme weather, or local emergencies).

If we cancel a gathering, your sole remedy is a choice between a 100% refund or a direct transfer to a future equivalent gathering.

5. Code of Conduct

Story Compass spaces rely heavily on safety, mutual respect, and trust. By participating, you explicitly agree to:

  • Maintain the absolute confidentiality of all personal experiences, stories, and information shared by other participants.

  • Refrain from recording, filming, screenshotting, photographing, or transcribing any part of a session or another participant's material without authorization.

  • Refrain from abusive, harassing, threatening, discriminatory, or disruptive conduct.

  • Refrain from using our gatherings, directories, or community spaces to pitch, sell, recruit, or solicit other participants.

We reserve the absolute right to remove any participant who violates this Code of Conduct immediately, at our sole discretion, without any refund or credit.

6. Not Therapy, and Not Medical or Mental Health Care

Story Compass gatherings are reflective, creative, and educational group experiences. They are not a substitute for psychotherapy, professional counseling, clinical mental health treatment, medical care, crisis intervention, or legal/financial advice.

Dorothy Vollmer is not acting as a licensed therapist, clinical psychologist, medical doctor, or financial advisor, and nothing shared within a Story Compass space should be treated as such.

Our work invites you to look closely at your own history and personal narrative, which can occasionally surface intense emotions or difficult memories. If you are currently in active crisis, recovering from acute trauma, or under the care of a mental health professional, we ask that you consult your provider before joining us. We reserve the right to defer your enrollment if we mutually feel the timing isn’t right.

Your participation is entirely voluntary. You may decline any prompt, writing exercise, or invitation to share at any time, for any reason, with zero explanation required.

7. Assumption of Risk & Liability Release

You choose to participate in our virtual or in-person programs entirely at your own risk. To the maximum extent permitted under Georgia law, you hereby release, waive, and hold harmless LuMa Ventures LLC, its owners, employees, facilitators, and venue partners from any and all claims, damages, or liabilities arising out of your participation, except in cases of gross negligence or willful misconduct on our part.

For in-person events, you are solely responsible for your own safe transit to and from the venue and for the security of your personal belongings.

8. Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, our total aggregate liability to you for any claim arising out of or relating to these Terms or your participation in any Story Compass program is strictly limited to the actual amount you paid to us for that specific program or membership. Under no circumstances will we be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages.

9. Intellectual Property

The Story Compass name, logo, frameworks, templates, handbooks, prompts, guides, and all related written, visual, or digital materials are the exclusive intellectual property of LuMa Ventures LLC. Materials provided to you are licensed solely for your personal, non-commercial use. You may not copy, distribute, teach, modify, resell, or use our frameworks to host your own commercial workshops or programs without our prior written consent.

The personal compass artifact you construct, your written stories, your personal insights, and your creative work belong entirely to you. We claim zero ownership over what you create in our spaces.

10. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the State of Georgia, without regard to its conflict of law principles. Any legal action or dispute arising under these Terms must be filed and resolved exclusively in the state or federal courts located in Fulton County, Georgia, and you consent to the personal jurisdiction of these courts.
